Introduction of the Taihe Civilizations Forum

Taihe Civilizations Forum Set to Open in July

The 7th Taihe Civilizations Forum (TCF) is set to officially commence in July 2023. This year’s TCF will build upon the excellence of its previous editions while presenting itself in an entirely novel form.

From July to October, TCF will hold a series of sub-sessions in various Chinese cities including Quanzhou, Taiyuan, Beijing, and Hong Kong. These sub-sessions will revolve around topics of cultural exchanges and mutual appreciation of civilizations under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), multilateral cooperation in energy, challenges and opportunities in the evolution of the international landscape and order, vocational education development strategy, talent integration between Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, and digital China construction. Esteemed experts and scholars from both China and around the world are invited to share and engage in intellectual discourse.

The first sub-session of the Forum on cultural exchanges will be held in Quanzhou on July 3 on the basis of Maritime Silk Road International Documentary Festival. It will explore how to promote the high-quality development of the BRI Initiative and usher in a new chapter of cultural exchanges and mutual appreciation of civilization against the backdrop of the 10th anniversary of the BRI and Global Civilization Initiative.

The People-to-People Exchange Sub-Session on July 3 will include the following scholars and experts: Gu Boping, Chief Cultural Scholar of Taihe Institute, Member of the 12th CPPCC National Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Social and Legal Affairs Committee of the CPPCC (2013-2015); Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China; Ong Tee Keat, Senior Fellow of Taihe Institute and President of the BRI Caucus for Asia Pacific; Ding Yifan, Senior Fellow of Taihe Institute and Permanent Vice-Director of World Development Institute of Development Research Center of the State Council (2000-2014); Xie Maosong, Senior Fellow of Taihe Institute and Senior Research Fellow at the National Strategy Institute of Tsinghua University; Einar Tangen, Senior Fellow of Taihe Institute and Chairman of Asia Narratives; and Huang Haibo, Deputy Head and Director of the Chief Editor’s Office of the Chinese Channel and Head of the Movie Channel of Phoenix Satellite Television.

Since its founding in 2017, TCF has been held consecutively for six sessions.  During this period, over 1,000 experts from across the globe have been invited to partake in discussions, and TCF has garnered extensive media coverage, with nearly 70 Chinese and foreign media outlets reporting. With the wholehearted involvement and support from various parties, the forum has evolved into a highly influential platform for academic exchanges and public diplomacy.
